The Origin Story

The idea for serenity.hr didn't begin in a polished boardroom. It started during a conversation at a gas station bar in Neslanovac, Split — between me and Viktor. We identified a genuine problem: mental health support systems were cumbersome and outdated. We asked ourselves, "What if we just built something better?" That was the pitch. That was the whole meeting.

Act I: "Let's Build a Team" Is Founder-Speak for "Let's Emotionally Gamble"

We assembled the initial team quickly, prioritizing enthusiasm over careful evaluation. This created significant challenges: team members lacked alignment on core objectives, egos clashed, and meetings became contentious. Strong interpersonal dynamics matter more than technical credentials alone. Company culture emerges during difficult moments, not through written policies.

The team underwent multiple iterations before finding the right fit. The eventual crew shared values, commitment, and compatible working styles.

Act II: Finding the Right People Is a Dating App, a Therapy Session, and a Hiring Process All at Once

Once we assembled the core team, productivity transformed dramatically. The right people enabled faster iteration cycles, reduced conflict, and restored enjoyment in the work. Turns out that "the right people" is less about skills and more about what they do when things go sideways.

Act III: MVP? Sure. But Let's Be Honest — It Was a Damn Product

Rather than launching a minimal, buggy prototype, we conducted thorough user research before writing a single line of code. We interviewed therapists, HR professionals, and potential users to understand actual needs. The launch was functional and polished — not a bare-bones experiment requiring unpaid testers.

Act IV: The Post-Launch Hangover (a.k.a. What Now?)

The platform gained traction through media coverage in major newspapers, national television, and online publications. However, maintaining momentum proved challenging. User acquisition fluctuates unpredictably, creating emotional volatility. Navigating Croatian bureaucratic requirements presented substantial obstacles.

Keeping the Pace When the Numbers Are Drunk

We committed to three principles to stay sane and focused:

  1. Build slower, but smarter. Without investor pressure for rapid growth, we prioritize meaningful development over panic-driven features.
  2. Keep talking to the people who matter. Regular engagement with users, therapists, and HR clients guides every decision.
  3. Remember why we started. The core motivation remains helping people access mental health support without friction.

Final Act: So… What Now?

The platform is operational and solving real problems. Rather than pursuing rapid scaling or acquisition, we emphasize sustainable growth while maintaining values and team cohesion.

Build quietly. Grow steadily. Stay human.
